Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 25, 2026
KidCheck ("KidCheck", "we", "us", or "our") provides a mobile
application that helps parents and guardians decide whether a movie, show, game, book,
app, or similar item is a good fit for their child. This Privacy Policy explains what
information the app handles, how it is used, and the choices you have.
By using KidCheck, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you
do not agree, please do not use the app.
Quick summary
- Your child profiles are stored in encrypted form on your own device, not on our servers.
- When you scan an item, the photo and the context you choose are sent to our service and our AI provider only to generate a verdict for you.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show third-party advertising.
- KidCheck is intended for use by adults, not by children.
Information we collect
Information you provide
-
Child profiles. When you set up the app you can create one or more child
profiles. A profile may include a name or nickname, an age, content preference settings
(for example how strict you want us to be about language, violence, scary content, online
chat, and mature themes), and an optional note about your family's faith or culture. This
information is stored in encrypted form on your device. It is sent to our service only as
context for a scan, and only for the time needed to generate a verdict.
-
Scan images and content. When you scan an item, the app captures a photo
and sends it, together with the relevant child context, to our service so that we can
identify the item and produce a verdict.
-
Feedback. If you tell us whether a verdict was helpful, we store that
feedback so we can improve the service.
Information collected automatically
-
Usage and reliability data. We process limited technical information
needed to operate the service, such as request timing used to apply usage limits and to
protect the service from abuse.
-
A device identifier for subscriptions. If you subscribe, our service
stores a one-way (hashed) identifier so we can apply the correct usage limits to your
subscription. This identifier cannot be reversed back into your Apple account.
Purchase information
Subscriptions are processed by Apple and managed through our payments partner, RevenueCat.
We do not receive or store your full payment card details. We receive your subscription
status so we can unlock paid features.
How your information is stored
-
On your device. Child profiles and your scan history are stored in
encrypted form on your device using the device's secure storage. They are not uploaded to
our servers for long-term storage.
-
On our service. We store feedback you submit, anonymous aggregate scan
trends (for example which items are commonly scanned and the resulting verdict category),
and the hashed subscription identifier described above.
-
Subscriber verdict cache. If you are a subscriber, recent verdict results
may be cached on our service for a short time so we can serve them faster. This cache is
tied to your hashed subscription identifier and is not accessible to other users.
How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- identify the scanned item and generate a verdict tailored to the child context you provide;
- show community trends and improve verdict quality;
- operate, secure, and maintain the service, including applying usage limits;
- provide customer support and respond to your messages;
- comply with legal obligations.
How we share information
We share information only as needed to run the service:
-
AI provider (OpenAI). The scan image and the child context you provide
are sent to OpenAI to generate the verdict.
-
Ratings sources. We may query public catalog and ratings sources (for
example the Apple App Store and movie rating databases) to ground a verdict in official
age ratings. These queries use the item name, not your child's personal information.
-
Payments (Apple and RevenueCat). Used to process and verify subscriptions.
-
Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or to
protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context
behavioral advertising.
Children's privacy
KidCheck is designed for parents and guardians. It is not directed to children,
and it is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect
personal information directly from children. The information about a child contained in a
profile is provided by you, the adult, and is stored in encrypted form on your device. If
you believe a child has provided information directly to us, please contact us so we can
address it.
Data retention
- Child profiles and scan history remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app.
- Scan images are used to generate a verdict and are not retained by us for long-term storage.
- Feedback and aggregate trend data may be retained to operate and improve the service.
- Cached verdict results for subscribers are stored only temporarily and are scoped to your hashed subscription identifier.
Security
We use encryption to protect child profiles and scan history stored on your device, and we
use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information handled by our
service. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee
absolute security.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit or delete any child profile at any time inside the app.
- You can clear your scan history from your device by deleting profiles or uninstalling the app.
-
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal
information. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
International users
KidCheck is operated from, and information may be processed in, countries that
may have data protection laws different from those in your country. By using the app you
understand that your information may be processed in those locations.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the
effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the app after an update means
you accept the revised policy.
